Boost your self-esteem by playing memory games.

Welcome to the two hundred and ninety ninth day of our second volume of this series. On the corresponding day of the first volume we had:

Boost your self-esteem by watching the sunrise.

Yesterday I mentioned that mental powers are like muscles which become stronger with use and become weaker when not used. If you want to strengthen your memory, use it. Make lists of things to remember just for fun. The way to remember lists is by making visual images of the objects in the list and connecting them together. The wilder, more ridiculous and more emotionally significant the images the better you will be able to remember the list. Use action verbs to connect the images.

  • Suppose this is the list - book, space suite, chocolate, TV set, cat, thunder, dressing gown, ice cream, photo, apple.
  • Imagine a huge bright red book which is wearing a space suite....
  • The space suite is made from chocolate....
  • The chocolate melts and pours on top of a 3D TV set....
  • Out of the 3D TV set jumps a cat which grows larger and larger....
  • The cat becomes the size of Zeus and starts throwing a thunder bolt at....
  • Throws a thunder bolt at a tiny dressing gown....
  • The tiny dressing gown is made of ice cream.....
  • The ice cream explodes when hit by the thunder revealing a giant photograph of....
  • It's a photograph of an apple the size of the planet earth.

The above is just an example of how to remember lists using vivid exaggerated visual stories. In order to remember best, use visual associations which are meaningful to you. Typically sexually charged or toilet humor type of images are best at forming associations. Make exaggerated images with lots of actions. If you go through your list a few times you will have it committed to your memory. Practice this a few times and you will become an expert in memorizing lists.

Actions for today:

  • I found this javascript concentration game written by Brian Gosselin. I would like to thank him for the script. The object of the game is to uncover all the blocks by successfully matching the image pairs. Click the Timer button below to start a new game whenever you want. Have fun, play the game and improve your memory. This game amy need a little time to laod depending on your connection. Once laoded you can keep playing it.
